Diving and snorkelling
Lobo's reef starts close to shore, inside the most species-dense shallow water recorded anywhere. What it lacks is infrastructure.
You can dive and snorkel in Lobo. The municipality maintains four local marine conservation areas on the Verde Island Passage and the reef is reachable from shore at several points. Dive infrastructure is thin compared with Anilao, so most visitors snorkel from the pebble beach or hire a local bangka to reach the sanctuaries.

What you will see
Hard and soft corals, reef fish and, in the wider passage, roughly 300 recorded coral species. The scientific basis for that, and for the passage's status as the centre of the centre of marine shorefish biodiversity, is set out on the Verde Island Passage page. Batangas State University's Lobo Marine Station in Barangay Masaguitsit works on these reefs.
Lobo or Anilao
Anilao, in Mabini, is the established Philippine dive destination: dozens of operators, charted sites, nitrox, macro photography workshops. Lobo has none of that density. What Lobo has is quiet, low cost, and reef you can walk into. Divers who want structure should go to Anilao. Snorkellers, families and divers who bring their own plan will get more out of Lobo.
Practicalities
Bring water shoes for the pebble entry and, ideally, your own mask and snorkel. Boat hire is arranged locally and rates are not published here because we have not verified them. Conditions are calmest in the dry months; see when to go. Getting there is on how to get to Lobo.

- Off Sawang and Olo-Olo, off Malabrigo, and off Biga, each of which has a declared fish sanctuary. Entry is from pebble shore, so bring water shoes. Ask locally before swimming out; currents near Malabrigo Point can be strong.
